Properties
Violent reaction with water: Extremely sensitive to air and moisture, reacts violently with water to release highly flammable ethane gas.
Highly flammable: In humid air, violent exothermic reaction occurs, releasing highly flammable ethane gas.
Stability: Should be operated and stored under the protection of anhydrous and oxygen-free inert gases such as nitrogen or argon. Avoid contact with oxidants, acids, alcohols, etc. at room temperature.
Applications
1. Pharmaceutical industry: As a key intermediate for the synthesis of various drug molecules, especially for introducing ethyl groups or modifying drug skeletons by constructing carbon-carbon bonds to improve drug activity and pharmacokinetic properties. An important example is triethylsilane, a key intermediate used in the production of oseltamivir (trade name Tamiflu), an anti-influenza drug.
2. Organic synthesis: As a classic Grignard reagent, it is used to synthesize various fine chemicals such as alcohols, aldehydes, ketones and carboxylic acids through nucleophilic addition reactions with carbonyl compounds such as aldehydes, ketones and esters. 3.
